He converted to Christianity as part of a deal with the Frankish king Charles the Simple (893-923 CE) in 911 CE (changing his name to Robert) and his story was then embellished upon by later Christian writers who held him up as a role model: a savage Viking chief who became a paragon of Christian virtue and established law in the land. In doing so, however, they largely ignored whatever was known of Rollo's life prior to his involvement with Charles. He is the great-great-great grandfather of William the Conqueror (first Norman King of England, 1066-1087.

Richard acquired the earldom of Gloucester by marriage, and became the leading barons of the south-eastern March by early in the 13th century. (The land at Belvoir was a gift from William the Conqueror to the family’s first recorded ancestor Robert de Todeni. One of his Norman barons, Robert de Todeni was William’s Standard Bearer in the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Todeni began building the first Castle here in 1067. It was built to a typically Norman motte-and-bailey design. With a timber framed fortress in an enclosed courtyard, it took full advantage of the site’s defensive position high up on the ridge. Todeni also founded a priory at the foot of the Castle, where he was buried on his death in 1088). Nine children.

Current Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire, England
Belvoir Castle’s history dates back to the eleventh century. It is the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland, where the family have lived in an unbroken line for almost a thousand years. Crowning a hill, the Castle’s turrets and towers rise over the Vale of Belvoir like an illustration in a romantic fairy-tale. The name Belvoir – meaning ‘beautiful view’ in French, and pronounced today as ‘beaver’ – dates back to Norman times. Four castles have stood on this spot since 1067, and it’s a pretty perfect location for a fortified castle. Looking over the battlements from the North Terrace of the current Castle, you can see for miles over the counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. And on a clear day, you can even see Lincoln Cathedral, some 30 miles to the North East.

A deed is recorded in the Virginia land books for 4,600 acres of land on the south side of Pamunky River on Falling Creek, 23 April 1681, to William Overton, for transporting 92 persons to the colony, including Elizabeth Overton; this would appear to indicate that he had indeed married Elizabeth in England. An additional grant, dated 29 Oct 1690, was made to William Overton for 837 acres lying in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co. (now Hanover) for transporting 17 persons.

Dobbs County is a former county located in the state of North Carolina. It was formed in 1758 from Johnston County, and in 1779, the western part of Dobbs County became Wayne County, and the county seat was moved from its original location on Walnut Creek to the town of Kingston, which was renamed Kinston in 1784. In 1791 Dobbs County was divided into Glasgow County (later renamed Greene County) and Lenoir County, disappeared.

He married 01/12/1851 in Madison Co, FL to Nancy Elizabeth Gornto: B: 04/--/1833 GA D: 1916 buried at Fayetteville Cemetery in Dixie County, FL by the Suwannee, below Wannee, where her parents are buried. Daughter of David Gornto & Eliza Ann Allen B: 11/01/1805 Bullock Co., GA D: 05/19/1864 at Lafayette Co., FL (son of Nathan Gornto) who married 11/20/1827 in Irwin Co, GA to Eliza Ann Allen B: 11/22/1811 NC D: 12/01/1871 Dixie Co. FL. Eliza was the daughter of James & Ferbie Allen of Irwin Co, GA. Emanuel Waters was a member of the 8th Regt. Florida Infantry - Company C. He was injured in the right hip area during a skirmish at "Wilderness" on May 6, 1864 and was captured. By all evidence, it was late in the day. He had enlisted May 15, 1862 at Houston, FL. He was absent/sick and hospitalized on the last muster roll. His Pension Record is #A00514. It was filed in Lafayette County, FL. In it, it lists his wife as "Nancy Gurnts". Her name was not "Gurnts" but was Gornto. In the scrapbook section of this file is a copy of a letter written by Emanuel when he applied for pension. It describes the incident that injured him. He was not hit by enemy fire but sustained a serious hernia after falling backwards over a pile of logs after being ordered to fall back when the Federal Troups flanked his unit on the left. The "Wilderness" Campaign - May 4-6, 1864: The series of battles began on May 4th, 1864, about 18 miles west of Fredericksburg , VA. Emanuel Waters was in the 8th Regt. Florida Infantry - Company C, a part of Perry's Brigade which was a part of Anderson's Division. Anderson's Division, commanded by Maj. Gen. Richard H. Anderson was under III Army Corps commanded by Lt. Gen. Ambrose P. Hill. Hill's commander was Robert E. Lee. After the War, Emanuel went down to Florida, where he owned the General Merchant Store, was a farmer and a Preacher. Emanuel owned 80 acres of land across the river from Rock Bluff in Lafayette County and ran a ferry across the river at this point from 1870-1880. In 1880 he moved across the river into Alachua County, and homesteaded 160 acres near Rock Bluff. His son, John H. purchased his land, adding to his 160 acres.

Agent and Telegraph Operator for Seaboard Air Line Railroad Company for 17 years, 'Old Peggy' at Alachua. Opened his own dry goods store and did the bookkeeping.
'David worked for the Atlantic Coast Line. He worked at the station on the north in of Alachua end of town. I don't know when he worked there. Sometime in the mid thirties, (32,34,35). He stopped working for the railroad and opened a Dry Goods store and sold Amaco Gas' (per VW).
Vida B. Waters came to Alachua in 1914. Leland Waters, Charlie Waters, and Dave Waters, all worked in the railroad business. Then they went into business for themselves, and they all did a lot for the City of Alachua. Per Vida; There used to be three railroad stations here for the trains. My husband was an agent for the Seaboard, and his brother was an agent for the Coast Line. And another brother was an agent for one of those little short trains they had over here on this side of town. All three brothers worked for a different line. We moved to Alachua in 1914, and when we first came, we could not find a place to live. Mr. Emery had an older brother who was planning to get married. This older brother said, "I will let you rent this house until I get ready to get married. Just leave it like you found it." So we came here in June and he was planning to get married in October, but we found another place to live." 3 children
