World Champion 1972 Miami Dolphins. They are the only team in NFL history to finish a season unbeaten and untied, and then go on to capture a Super Bowl victory that made them world champions. The 1972 Dolphins also broke several NFL records. They were 17-0 while leading the league in offense and defense and were the first team to have two 1,000-yard rushers in the same backfield. They also secured the team rushing record by averaging more than 200 yards per game on the ground for an entire season, while the defense allowed only 171 points. Bill Stanfill, one of the greatest players in Dolphins history, passed away at the age of 69. He played eight seasons (1969-76) at defensive end for the Dolphins after an outstanding career at the University of Georgia. Stanfill was a key member of the 'No-Name Defense' that helped the Dolphins to back to back Super Bowl wins, including our Perfect Season championship in 1972.
