Among their children, James Phipps was Captain-General of the Royal African Company at Cape Coast Castle between 1719 and 1722, while William Phipps was Governor of Bombay between 1722 and 1729. Thomas Phipps was the second son of Thomas Phipps of Westbury Leigh, Wiltshire, whose family had emerged as prominent clothiers in the 16th century; and his wife Eleanor, daughter of James Hayes of Beckington, Somerset. Phipps himself sought his fortune in London, becoming involved in trading to the East Indies, West Africa and New England. He bought property in west Wiltshire, namely Dilton manor, near Westbury, in 1693 and the nearby Heywood House around 1700).

John Purvis Mott, 43, a former resident of Lake City, died Sunday morning, and funeral services were held Monday afternoon, at the home of his father, Mr. Johnnie Mott. Mr Mott was only ill a few hours and died from a heart attack as diagnosed by his physicians. Mr. Mott was well known throughout the state, having been associated with leading automobile dealers the last 15 years. For several years he was employeed at Palatka, later at Starke and Lake City. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Maude Fralick Mott; two daughters, Dorothy Mott, Lake City, and Mrs. M.E. Weldon of Jacksonville; his father, and a step-mother, Mrs. Mary Mott of Brooker. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Shepherd, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Starke. Interment was made at Elzey Chapel Cemetery near Worthington, Springs, FL. Rivers attained fame by manufacturing his own invention, the Rivers "double stock" plow, which was popularly used all over Florida and the South. The business was passed on to C.F. Rivers and then to Wilson Rivers. Wilson purchased his dads farm in 1947, and owned nearly half the county up into Worthington Springs, and sold all but 200 of the 2,300 acres in 2011. H. Rimes Worthington Springs at 1:30 pm. Were killed in an automobile accident when an on coming car & trailer knock their car on a bridge, Mrs. Billing and Carlyle were passengers in a car driven by Rimes when it collided with truck driven by Lawton Priest Lakeland, who was held on charge of manslaughter pending an inquest before Justice of the Peace Edwin Fouraker of Baldwin. Coll Carlyle, who died in a Jacksonville hospital Friday night from injuries suffered in the wreck, was buried after services at the grave in the Fort Call cemetery near Worthington Springs at 2:00 pm, at which the Rev. J. M Joyner officiated. The surviving spouses married, Angus remarried to Virginia Colsen Rimes 1 child:

Wilson and Sophia Rivers were named Distinguished Friends of the Foundation and Florida Gateway College’s Library and Media Center will be named the Wilson S. Rivers Library and Media Center in honor of the foundation’s former chairman. The gift was the largest in the history of the College and the Foundation. It is the first time a gift has been made to name an entire building.
