Leopold I, the German ruler from 1658 to 1705, Leopold I became emperor after the sudden death of his brother Ferdinand IV. Originally destined for a career in the Church, his strict religious upbringing made him a zealous proponent of the Counter-Reformation. During his long reign the Habsburg Monarchy waged numerous wars, against France, the Ottoman Empire and internal enemies in Hungary. As a Baroque ruler, Leopold promoted the arts and had an especially keen interest in music.
Joseph I, Holy Roman Emperor
And his first son Joseph I, ruled from 1705 until 1711 at which time, his second son, Charles VI ruled from 1711 until 1740. Archduke Charles/Charles VI (baptised: Carolus Franciscus Josephus Wenceslaus Balthasar Johannes Antonius Ignatius), the second son of the Emperor Leopold I and of his third wife, Princess Eleonor Magdalene of Neuburg, Eleonor married Emperor Leopold I in 1676: She was born Countess Palatine of Neuburg in Dusseldorf. Eleonore Magdalene Therese B: 01/06/1655 D: 01/19/1720) was Holy Roman Empress as the spouse of Holy Roman Emperor, Leopold I. Of her marriage, she was also Queen of Bohemia and Hungary, German Queen, and Archduchess of Austria. Charles VI was born on 10/01/1685 & died 10/20/1740. His Coronation was in Frankfurt, 12/22/1711.

Charles C. Deckel, Baron Von Deckel, served under Charles VI. Two sons of Baron Von Deckel, Charles the oldest, and John the second son, and their cousin Friedrich, left the hard life of Germany. As a result of harsh military training that all young German youths of that era were put through, they came to America. Family tradition has it they stowed away aboard a sailing ship and eventually arrived in the Harbor at Savannah, Georgia.
Some of the remaining Deckel family members remain outside of Hanover, working the family plant, Milling Machine Manufacturer founded by Friedrich W. Deckel.

Baron George G. Deckel B: 1635 Hanover, Stadt Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany D: 1689 Hanover, Stadt Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany
Baron George G. Deckel B: 1664 Hanover, Stadt Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany D: 1749 Hanover, Stadt Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany
Baron Charles G. Von Deckel Sr B: 1686 in Hannover, Stadt Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany D: Hanover Germany. M: 1730 Bethatania Georgianna Ross B: 1725 Hannover, Stadt Hannover, Niederdschsen, Germany D: 1800 Emanuel, GA. Charles served during the rule of Charles VI (1711-1740). Charles C. Von Deckel, Jr. with his brother John Leonard Von Deckel and his cousin Friedrich Deckel arrived in 1754, at the Port of Savannah. Friedrich went North, to West Chester Cty, PA. and Charles just plainly dissappeared. In the 1790 Head of Household Census Index with Chester County, PA: Frederick Deckel, was listed. John, whom stayed in GA, changed the family spelling to Dekle. On August 24, 1765 the ship Polly, Robert Porter, Master, arrived from Rotterdam via Cowes. Among the 211 passengers was one Joh. Leonard Devil. If this name is pronounced with a long "e", as in Dekle, it could very easily have been a misunderstanding of Dekle by the writer. There was also on this ship a Friederich Hippel, which is more of a stretch, but again, with an "i" pronounced like a long "e" it is still a possiblity. https://www.dekle.net/Johndekle.html

Here starts the family history in America...
2~John Leonard Dekle, Sr B: 1737 Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany D: 01/08/1828 GA. M: 1774 Sallie Grissom, daughter of William Grissom. B: 1740 in Wales, GB. D: 01/25/1826. Orangeburg District South Carolina 1790 Census page 409. The name of John Teackle appears with 1 adult male, four under 16 males, and 5 females living in the household. Could this be our John? The birthdates for Charles and George would make them under 16 in 1790 and Thomas was born March 19, 1791. Sallie, Mary, Sarah and Susannah could account for four of the five women. It also was not unusual during this time period to have others living with a family so that could make up the difference. After 1801, John and his family lived along Reedy Creek, now Candler County Georgia. Originally, his records show up in Montgomery County, then in 1812 in Emanuel County and in 1914 the land became part of Candler County. John never moved, the County boundaries just changed around him. John is buried near the banks of Reedy Creek, which is part of the Dekle farm in Candler County, Georgia.

Dekle, a member of one of the most prominent families of Cordele, shot herself to death at her home here yesterday morning. The tragedy, which has shocked the city from one end to the other, occurred at 5 o'clock while members of Mrs. Dekle household were asleep. The dead woman apparently selected a day when others had planned thanksgiving, as those around her were looking forward to the day with great pleasure. After leaving her room Mrs. Dekle turned on all the lights in the house. She then went to the bathroom, where, after placing a pistol in her mouth. she fired the fatal shot.. Her members of the household found her after running through all parts of the brilliantly lighted house. The sucide of Mrs Dekle is believed to have been due to an unbalanced mind over the recent death of her young son. M2: Callie L. Methvin 1879-1966.

Lt. William Grissom Dekle Jr
William Dekle Jr. was born on 1 April 1832 in Thomas County, GA, the youngest son of Thomas County Sheriff William Grissom Dekle, and Bethany Hollingsworth. The Dekle family traces its roots back to Prussia. The Hollingsworths were Pennsylvania Quakers who migrated to Savannah, GA, before Revolutionary War, (the one in 1776). In the spring of 1862 William enlisted as a private in the Decatur Infantry, Company F of the 50th GA Volunteer Infantry. He was elected Lt in June of that year. The 50th, under the Command of Colonel William Manning, spent the summer recruiting and organizing and joined the Army of Northern Virginia for the first invasion of the North in the fall of' 62. William and his regiment would both meet their fate September 14th 1862 at South Mountain. The 50th Georgia was part of Drayton's Brigade and passed through the town of Boonesborough, MD, about noon on 14 Sep 1862. Originally ordered to a position in Turners Gap, Drayton's Brigade was redirected to Fox's gap, a mile to the south. It had been the scene of intense fighting that morning. General D. H. Hill had four brigades, including Drayton's align along the Old Sharpsburg Road where it passes through the gap. Once in position they were to execute a left wheel driving the Union troops from the field and the woods to the south. Drayton's brigade was to serve as the "hinge" for the maneuver. General Roswell Ripley was in command of the operation. Somehow his brigade and two of G.T. Anderson's moved too far down the west side of the mountain and lost contact with Drayton. When musketry indicated that Drayton's brigade was under attack General Anderson attempted to make contact but found a large body of Union troops blocking his path. By the time Anderson fought his way through to beleaguered Drayton it was too late to help. Meanwhile General Ripley had moved entirely off the mountain and was not engaged at all that day. General Drayton ordered the 50th and 51st GA regiments to take up a position on the Sharpsburg Road, on the east side of the mountain. Phillips' Legion and the 3rd SC Battalion took up a position in a field to the south of the road, The Georgians immediately began taking fire on their left flank from a well positioned 17th Michigan Infantry. This was the musketry heard by General Anderson. William, then 3rd Lt, fell in the initial volley. The 50th and 51st were routed, suffering massive casualties. The South Carolinians and Phillips' Legion had to fight their way out of the woods to the south, also taking heavy casualties. Lt. William Grissom Dekle Jr. was buried in an unmarked soldier's grave on the field where he fell. He left a wife and two children. When his wife, Susan Donaldson Dekle, died in 1911, by her request she was buried in an unmarked grave because her husband was buried on the battlefield without a marker for his grave.1~Allison Hill Dekle B: 04/29/1854 D: 12/18/1943 Union Cemetery, GA.
