PO BOX 1909
POST FALLS, ID 83877
This is a private cemetery located at the junction of NW 118th Avenue and NW 140th Street (County Road 241), just south of the town of Alachua. There are actually two cemeteries at this location which appear as one. The Thomas Cemetery is at the intersection and the other set of graves (Douglas Cemetery) is immediately adjacent on the north side of the Thomas Cemetery. There is no longer any visual division between the two cemeteries. The records of the United States Land Office at Washington D. C. show that the East 1/2 of the NE 1/4 of Section 27, Township 8, South Range 18 East, was approved to Isham Thomas, under date of the Patent, May 1st, 1855, recorded in Volume 6, page 456, eighty acres. Cemetary in the Southeast corner of NE1/4 of Section 27-8-18, Alachua County, Florida. Known as Thomas Cemetery. Shaw Family Funeral Notices

THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
By Thelma Greene Reagan
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come.
