John Langston II B: 1378 in Tusmere, Oxfordshire, England D: 1435 in Tusmere, Oxfordshire, England M: Elizabeth Grimsby B: 1390 D: 1463. John de Langston bought the manor of Caversfield, Oxfordshire, England about 1435 from John Tame, of Brackly. (By 1350 the manor was in possession of John de Peyto, who conveyed it in that year to Fulk de Birmingham. In 1386 John de Birmingham, son of Fulk, and Elizabeth his wife conveyed Caversfield to John Tame, but whether for purposes of settlement or not, is not recorded. Caversfield afterwards came to the Langstons, and an inquisition taken in 1435, after the death of John Langston, lord of Bucknell in Oxfordshire, speaks of him as 'of Caversfield.' His son and heir John, then aged six, on attaining his majority sued Robert Gilbert, Bishop of London, and others whom his father had enfeoffed to the uses of his will for their refusal to make him an estate of Caversfield. John Langston married Amice daughter of John Danvers, and in 1449 a settlement was made on them and their heirs. By his will, dated 16 February 1499–1500, John Langston desired to be buried in the chancel of St. Laurence, Caversfield, and left instructions for two priests to celebrate mass for seven years for the souls of himself and his wife Elizabeth, whom he had evidently married after the death of Amice. At his death in 1506 he was succeeded by his son and heir Richard, aged forty, though another son Thomas was made executor of the will. Richard Langston made a settlement of the manor in 1508, and in 1511 leased it to Thomas Denton for a term of twenty years at an annual rent of £26. About 1525 he brought a suit against the lessee, who 'of his subtle and crafty mind, being expert in making of writings,' had forged a new lease granting himself a further term in the manor. Richard Langston died in December 1525, leaving a son John as heir).

1~John Jesse Langston Sr B: 1620 D: 1694 VA M: 1645 Katherine Mountford/Mulford B: 1624 D: 1699 Nansemond Cty, VA. In 1672-73 John Langston received a grant from the general court for 1,600 acres in New Kent County, Virginia. He was a colonel in Bacon's Rebellion (Bacon's Rebellion was an armed rebellion in 1676 by Virginia settlers led by Nathaniel Bacon against the rule of Governor William Berkeley, due to refusal to retaliate for a series of Native American attacks on frontier settlements. In addition, many colonists wished to push westward to claim Indian frontier land, but they were denied permission by Gov. Berkeley). The British put down their rebellion but failed to find John so that they could hang him. He turned himself in on July 31, 1677, was allowed to wear a sword on Aug. 27, 1678, and received a pardon by the assembly in January of 1680. However, they barred him from ever holding public office.John Langston had two grants of l and. The first, 1681, to "John Langston" for 1300 acres in New Kent, being the land formerly granted to Hannah Clarke, found to escheat by Marke Work man, Deputy Escheator, and now granted to John Langston, with 1316 acres in New Kent. There was a group of loyalists in this section. Sir Philip Honeywood (see doc below), Col. Mainwaring Hammond and Anthony Langston had been loyalist officers, as had been William Bassett of the same county. Mrs. Hannah Clarke was widow of John Clarke, of York County, who was a son of Sir John Clarke, of Wrotham, Kent, England. She was also the executrix of Sir Dudley Wyatt, a Royalist officer, who died in Virginia in 1651. See below

Her cause of Freedom during the Revolutionary War, lead to her Patriotism to the American cause was so great, it earned her the pseudonym 'Daring Dicey'. She provided valuable information to the Whigs and harassed the enemy during the entire war. She was listed as one of The Great Women of the American Revolution. Struggling through the strong current of the Tyger stream in the middle of the night, 15-year-old Dicey Langston raced to warn her brother and his men that the settlement at Little Eden, South Carolina would be attacked by the "Bloody Scouts" at daybreak. The Bloody Scouts were a group of outlawed Tories (British supporters) led by Bill Cunningham. They were known to be ruthless in killing anyone who was part of the rebel cause. Dicey died on the 23 May 1837, aged 71 and was praised for her “daring deeds on behalf of her suffering country and friends” A children's book "Rebel with a Cause: The Daring Adventure of Dicey Langston, Girl Spy of the American Revolution" tells the tales of Dicey. A marker has been placed at the site of Dicey's home on Tigerville Road, Travelers Rest, South Carolina.
